Dance Classes

Embark on a journey through our dance and theater programs at Northern Nevada Ballet Academy. From beginners taking their first plié to elite dancers mastering intricate movements, explore our diverse range of classes designed to nurture technique, artistry, and passion for dance and theater at every stage of your dance education.

We offer many classes – traditional dance styles, song & dance classes, stretch & tone, technique classes, as well as non-traditional classes such as Aerial Silks, Nutrition, and Special Needs. Below are descriptions of our classes (listed alphabetically):

AERIAL SILKS*:

The art of aerial silks was made popular from the world-renowned shows of Cirque du Soleil, and then again from singer Pink’s performance on them during the Grammy awards in 2010. It uses your muscles extensively and combines ballet, gymnastics, and contortion (such as “over” splits). Learn to climb, wrap, pose, twist and drop while improving your core strength and overall flexibility. It is a total body workout!

*Aerial classes do not include trials. If you’re interested in joining, please contact us for more details — we’re happy to help you find the best fit!

BALLET (learn more):

At Northern Nevada Ballet Academy, our Ballet program is rooted in the rich tradition of classical technique while nurturing each dancer’s unique artistry and expression. We are committed to instilling the values of discipline, perseverance, and grace—both on and off the stage. Through thoughtful instruction and a supportive environment, our students develop not only strong technical foundations but also a deep appreciation for the beauty, precision, and emotional depth that define the art of ballet. From the earliest plié to the final bow, we strive to inspire confidence, creativity, and a lifelong passion for dance.

BALLET (POINT & PRE-POINTE):

Pointe is a classical ballet technique where dancers perform on the tips of their toes using specially designed shoes called pointe shoes. It requires strength, balance, and precision, and is often seen as a milestone in a ballerina’s training, showcasing grace, discipline, and technical skill.

Pre-Pointe (or Demi-Pointe) is a preparatory ballet class designed to build the strength, alignment, and technique needed for dancing en pointe. Dancers focus on exercises that develop ankle stability, core strength, and proper ballet fundamentals before advancing to full pointe work.

CONTEMPORARY:

Our Contemporary dance classes blend innovative movement with expressive storytelling, encouraging students to explore their unique artistic voices.

HAPPY FEET 1 & 2:

Leaps and Turns is a dynamic ballet and jazz-based class focused on improving jump height, turning technique, and overall athleticism. Dancers work on flexibility, strength, and control while mastering various leaps, turns, and combinations across the floor.

The movements are expressive and fluid, emphasizing the connection between the dancer and the music. Lyrical focuses on conveying deep emotions, storytelling, and expressing the lyrics of the song through dance.
